A prized deciduous small tree or large accent shrub. Dramatic, long-lasting, smoke-like airy seed clusters are backed by deep purple foliage. Foliage holds its color all summer, turning a scarlet red in fall. Good drainage is essential but poor and rocky soils are tolerated. Drought tolerant once established.
